R&R the steering pump on the 3.0
Just had my steering rack replaced last week and the steering assist is now non existent at idle. I talked to the tech guys Jorgen Automotive, where I purchased the rack, and they suggested the pressure relief valve might malfunctioning because of metal debris. I checked a sample of the fluid last night and sure enough, the fluid has a reflective sheen under LED lighting.
Is pressure relief valve on the pump housing serviceable without taking the pump out?
If the pump needs to be replace, how much labor is involved? Does the bumper need to come out to remove the pump?

It's a bit of a tight squeeze, but you don't have to remove the bumper to change the power steering pump. I believe you just need to remove the drive/accessory belt, and then remove the PS pulley in order to get to the pump. You supposedly need a special tool to loosen the tension on the drive belt, but an open end wrench of the correct size (can't remember what size off the top of my head) will do just fine. However, you probably do need the "spanner wrench" special tool in order to hold the PS pulley while you unbolt the three bolts that hold it to the pump. Once remove the belt and pulley, I believe there are three bolts holding the PS pump on (one of which is a bit of a pain to get to), the banjo bolt for the fluid line, and the "suction hose".
