Default Radar Detector Question

Can someone recommend a less expensive alternative to the V1? To those that have them, are they worth it?

Default well my escort 8500 worked well. But as my previous experience with the cops showed..

not a damn thing will work when they tag you with a laser.

The Escort showed me I was being hit and with what, but it was to late!

Totally worth it. Can any other detector tell you where the cop is/the cops ARE?

Default I have heard (no positive) that a black car can be made totally stealthy to laser.....

by using black tape to conceal all shiny surfaces that a laser might use for reflecting. Not practical but interesting.

Default if you're being painted and the cop can identify you... you're toast...

radar/laser detectors work if the cop is trying to find someone else and your detector finds the signal. Lasers have a much narrower beam, but they are electromagnetic radiation and can be detected. The trouble is, because their beam can be distorted by the atmosphere, they have a shorter range and stray/reflected signals cannot be detected by your device. The short of it is, if your detector (and thats any brand of detector) picks up a laser signal it is more than likely the cop is shining the laser on you, therefore you'd better start writing the check.....

p.s. the only, for sure, way to avoid getting a ticket from radar/laser is to cover your A4 in radar absorbant material and make sure there are no flat surfaces to reflect back to the radar/laser gun, like the stealth fighter,

It would have to be flat black. Not very pretty. I haven't seen any BB F117's.

How prevalent is the laser as opposed to radar these days?

So is the V1 considered the "best"?
