Default Rear seat lock button - my son locked himself in the car

using the rear seat locking button while I was fueling the car (he's 3). Of course, I had left the keys in the ignition not remembering that the damn button was back there and within his reach. After about 5 minutes of cajoling, I finally got him to wriggle out of the car seat and open the door. Sheeesh.

Of course, soon enough he'll probably be driving away with the car.

In New Jersey, that's illegal. I know I issue summons for that a lot!

Default Hint: If you don't leave the keys in it, he can't drive away with the car.

That should help with the lock out incidents too.

Honestly, I don't have children, but when there is a pet or child in the car, and I need to get out for ANY reason, I roll a window down and take the keys with me. That almost eliminates the possibility of a bad situation. Consider doing the same from now on.

Default Before you child welfare advocates report me to Child Services....

I know this child's capabilities very well (still learning the A4's capabilities, however), and he is unable to get out of his carseat without significant effort (as was again confirmed as I tried to coax him out). When I gas up, I always pay at the pump, and the child is never out of my sight. So, if the kid has a mind to get out of the seat, I'm on him immediately.

The X factor was the lock button on the middle console.

Not to mention that people sometimes steal cars from gas stations when the keys are left in them...

Default Reminds me of "Raising Arizona"

The bad guys steal the car with the baby on the roof. Funny movie.
