Default Recall for '03 1.8t timing belt?

My sister was told there is a recall on the TB for these cars... I haven't heard that...

She has 65k on hers now, probably time to replace anyway.

Good indy shops in Portland/Vancouver WA?

Default Not a recall. There is a free inspection required for an extended warranty...

But there is a time limit on getting the inspection done at an Audi Dealer. Call Dealer for specifics.

Default crap...

They look at it. Any wear - no deal...

How does that work?

If I have wear, shoudn't it be replaced? but if its good then warentee till 105k...

Good work on the lawyers parts for this class action!

Default Free inspection only. If they think it needs replaced, then you pay $1500 or so.

The letter is only to check for wear, it doesn't cover any costs for replacement. Since the car is in their hands, they will strongly recommend replacement at full cost.

Replacing a timing belt is never covered under warranty. Audi has lowered the recommended mileage to have the timing belt replaced. It's a best practice to have the belt, tensioner, and water pump replaced every 60k to 70k miles for the 1.8T and every 70k to 80k miles for the 3.0.

Default why would they recommend it?

I haven't recommended one once, haven't seen any wear. If it breaks it's covered under the 105k warranty...

Default Many recommendations for early replacement have been made without clear justification...

for condemning the parts. The motivation for doing this is clearly profit driven. Never mind honesty and integrity, something you still believe is important here.
