Default recommended 17" all season tires?

My BB with sport pack quattro should be in very soon. I will have a 36 mo lease and I know I need all season tires. I was thinking of changing over to 17" all season tires this winter and leaving them on, and changing back to the summer tires in about 2 1/2 years, before I give back the leased car. I hated the winter snow tires I had on my old 99 sport pack. Way too noisey. What would be a good all season 17" tire that is relatively quite yet provides grip in the winter? I will have them on the car only for about 2 years; so I want something reasonably priced. I test drove a car with 16" Pirelli stock all season and they seemed quiet. Where should I purchase the tires?

Default Your sincerity is compelling. w/o checking sizes, we ALL are loving the Dunlop SP5000s, Sport A2s.

I am running Potenza RE950s, Dry is fine, slippery in the wet and one on my Coupe GT is pushing hard. DUNLOP! Michelin is way over-rated.

Default i have had Dunlop 5000s for some time

and like them. well gripping and reasonably quiet. cannot tell you how they handle in a snow, since i have separate winter wheels.

indeed, michelin is overrated and severely overpriced.

are you saying the Portenza RE950s do not do so well in the snow and rain?

Default If you check out the customer comments on Tire Rack that IS what they are saying...

I've never owned them, so I can not comment. But I have always been (owned 4 sets) a fan of Dunlops.

Warranty is different than life expectancy though.

Default Re: recommended 17" all season tires?

Well, I had a chat with a some folks about this a while back and I wound up with Yokohoma AVS -DBs. Now they do come in the right size for a standard A4 sport suspension car, but I was told that they are great in rain (my last set was AWESOME) but they kinda suck in snow. On the other hand, I was told that the comparable Dunlops has the opposite problem; poor in rain, great in snow. I wound with the AVS set.

On the new car, I have the stock contis and they seem to be fine. Have tested in the rain (works great) but as you can imagine, not much snow in Atlanta to test with ;-)...!!

Good luck!!
