think of it this way: each engine can only go a certain total number of strokes, or rpms. If you run it on high rpm all the time, it will reach that number faster and expire. Oversimplification? Yes, but you get the idea.
I really don't see the point of redlining the car. Are you forgetting to shift to the next gear??? Like others pointed out, your boost and torque levels begin to drop even before reaching redline, so shifting before/around 60000 rpm or so would give better performance actually.

I push the 225 in my TT to 6700-6800 with no
problem. I'm sure that without the rev limiter,
this little sweety could pull over 7000 all day.
