I've just hit 900 and some miles on my car and have finally taken her to redline...couldn't bear to wait anymore. Anybody notice how when you go to shift, the revs go up by a couple of hundred RPMs first? I've been driving a manual since I was 12 years old (I'm an old 29 now...) and that's all I've ever driven/owned, so I know how to drive a stick, and very well. I've modified my technique to actually let off the gas slightly before I engage the clutch whereas I'm used to doing all of that simeltaneously when I'm redlining. I know I'll get used to it, but of all the clutches I've ever driven (pretty much every kind of car out there), I've never noticed this before.
Did Audi tune it this way intenionally for emissions reasons?

I did notice the RPMs are slow to fall though, which can became irritating when shifting quickly.

Revs are slow to fall, which is fine under normal shifting because they usually fall to the exact RPM of where the engine will rev in the next higher gear. But you're right, under heavy load, it is annoying.
