US Healthcare system spends double to cover fewer people. Lots of inefficiency and high cost. 37% of the cost of US healthcare is working out who pays whom.
UK system spends 1/2 of US as a function of GDP, 1/3 in absolute terms to cover 100% of people - and if you want better service you can get a top up plan with a private insurer and/or your employer can give you a top up plan with a private insurer too, so you can get exactly the high level service available in the US but at less total cost - and I'm including the tax cost too. If you lose your job or you don't want to pay for the extra insurance you don't have to be worried that you can't afford treatment because you get full treatment regardless and you don't spend years trying to pay it back.
And the UK system is much worse than say Germany or France! Germany is a private insurance system but with mandates.
Then people say things like "people come from all over the world to the US for healthcare" - but then they go to London and Switzerland too - so that doesn't really prove anything except that cutting edge treatments usually belong to university/research hospitals - and that's true here and in Europe.
Just in case anyone was interested
