Don't know if anyone has had their oil tested but found several links to lab services that test oil. Thinking about having a sample done at 5k but don't know if it would be worth it. Didn't seem to cost much.

I plan on keeping my A4 for 10 years or more, and I will change the oil according to the recommended 10K intervals. I used to have an '87 260E Benz that practically never got oil changes during its life and it now has well over 200K on it and only uses a tiny bit of oil. I gave it to my dad a couple years ago and have changed the oil for him only once since. I will, however, use synthetic in the Audi (probably 0W30 if I can find it)so 10K oil changes will probably even be too frequent

It contaminates the oil and destroys the additives, index improvers, sludge removers, anti-foam agents. Like I said, when you see dew on the outside of the car, its inside the block too. Unless you park indoors, I would consider this fact.
