Default Replaced my lost gas cap with a non OEM compatible one...but Gas Cap warning light still flashing!??

Stupidly left the gas tank UnCapped as I drove off a gas station today.....Gascap warning light started flashing 10 minutes while driving at the highway. The cap must have fallen off the highway.

So I went to Pep Boys (Autoparts store) and I bought a compatible version for our car ($6).But when I drove off with the new cap on, the gascap warnng light on the dash is still flashing....

Does the OEM gas cap version have a sensor which disables the gas cap warning light on the dashboard??

Are you planning on getting an OEM one again? Only about $30.

Default buy an OEM one...

there is a magnet in the OEM one which once installed "closes" the feedback loop that indicates to the ECU that it's there... aftermarket ones don't have that magnet and therefore the feedback loop is left "open" and the ECU thinks that the gas cap is not on.
