Default Replacing 1.8T engine, options?

I will spare the details, but some powers that be broke a rod in my 2002 B6 A4 1.8T 5MT at 107k miles. I can find a new 1.8T for ~$3500 which is not a big deal. While I was waking up this morning I got to thinking about other engines which would fit into my B6. Would a 2.0T FSI fit? I could go hippie and get a 1.9TDI but I think I like performance. I have doubts with the 2.0T as I'm sure engine management woudld be a pain in ***. What are your thoughts? What are my options?

Default Nope.

The reason for the engine failure had nothing to do with tuning and is not in scope of this post.

Default And keep the heads on my current engine?

Would it mount up correctly to the engine mounts?

It's possible, but it will be cheaper to just buy a B5 S4.

Default Yes, and yes, a TT225 LB is a direct fit. You would need to use the pan and....

manifolds etc, from the original engine.
