Right rear shock is defective replace one or both?

Right rear shock is defective replace one or both?
I posted below I am pretty sure my right rear shock is defective. I should be getting reimbursed for that one shock. Will just changing one shock have any negative effect on the other rear shock? The current shocks are new and have no more than about 6k on them?
