are the rings on the trunk attached with screws?

If you plan on painting your rings, just debadge and start...
fresh.
Get new rings w/virgin double sided tape and you'll know when you re-apply the rings to your lid, it will stay. Oyah, don't forget to lightly prime (w/quality primer) the rings so that your new paint will stick to the chrome.
