Track inspired performance utilizing OE components is just what the new ECS RA4 clutch kit for B5/B6 A4 1.8T delivers. The ECS RA4 B5/B6 A4 Complete Clutch Kit is built around the well known and powerful OE RS4 clutch disc and pressure plate designed to handle the stock 380 daily driven horsepower of the European RS4. A direct bolt up to the stock 1.8T crank is made possible by ECS Tunings custom designed lightweight aluminum flywheel.
Increasing the disc diameter to 240mm over the stock diameter of just 228 and reducing the combined rotational mass of the flywheel, disc and pressure plate by over 42% (35% reduction in rotational mass).

This clutch solution is certain to last through the trials of aggressive street and track driving on even the most heavily modified motor.

All ECS RA4 Clutch kits are 100% complete including all necessary parts to install your clutch upgrade

Audi :: B5 A4 Quattro - 1.8T > Drivetrain > Clutch
</

Default These rock!

I've had the Stage 2 setup (Paul, correct me if I'm wrong) on my B6 A4 for over 6K miles. During that time, I've taken it out to Mid-Ohio for a 2-day track session through the Audi Club Driving School. I've also done some spirited runs on some twisties (Cuyahoga Valley) and a good mix of highway and city driving.

The RS4 clutch is solid. Period. The clutch is easy to engage/disengage like the OEM stock clutch. The engagement point is set lower, but I like it that way.

Great work, guys! =)

Is it possible to get this kit without a LWF?

Default Sure, that would be a stock RS4 pressure plate and disc, the kit is all about the flywheel....

That's how the kit works. Our custom flywheel bolts to the A4 1.8T crank and then accepts the OE S4/RS4 pressureplate and disc.

Default How much chatter from the new LWFW they add?

Do you get any squealing in first gear? Any vibration under 2800rpms? Just trying to find a LWFW option that does not have those things. Thanks. cheers! Mike

Default A coule qustions Paul...

1. How much chatter is caused by the flywheel. Is it actually only 6lbs?

2. How much low rpm is reduced below 2800rpm due to the light flywheel. Things like bogging and vibration in low rpms?

3. Any first gear squeal reported?

4. How are the pins on the flywheel held in place? Does it use the newer technique of stepping them to keep them from coming out?

5. Is there any way to modify the DMFW to accept this upgrade or do you have to use the LWFW option?

6. Do you have any folks with over 5K miles on these kits I could maybe ask about it?

Thanks very much Paul. I am very interested in this setup.

cheers! Mike

Default My Answers

1. How much chatter is caused by the flywheel. Is it actually only 6lbs?

Yes, you are right about the weight, but you should also notice the disc and pressure plate are both heavier(than stock), as well as larger in diameter. That's why our chart shows the reduced rotational mass as well as the reduced rotational inertia.

2. How much low rpm is reduced below 2800rpm due to the light flywheel. Things like bogging and vibration in low rpms?

Our test B5 drives just like stock. In fact one might not know the more aggressive clutch was there aside from the slight increase in pedal effort. These are all unmodified OE components minus our flywheel. A beta B6 owner does have some noise at idle with the clutch out and the car in neutral. (cypermg can comment better on this)

3. Any first gear squeal reported?

None that I have experience or that has been reported to us.

4. How are the pins on the flywheel held in place? Does it use the newer technique of stepping them to keep them from coming out?

The clutch is manufactured exclusively for us to our drawings by a highly experienced flywheel manufacturer. They are class leader in this field and I am sure they are using the latest in manufacturing techniques.(the pin engagement was not specified by us, but I will contact them and let you know what I find out)

5. Is there any way to modify the DMFW to accept this upgrade or do you have to use the LWFW option?

The engineering and design is in the flywheel. The pressure plate and disc are unmodified OE RS4 or S4 components.

6. Do you have any folks with over 5K miles on these kits I could maybe ask about it?

cybermg can help us here

our personal shop car does not have that many miles on the kit, but the few that it does are pretty abusive and the kit is doing just fine with no signs of damage.

Thanks very much Paul. I am very interested in this setup.

Default For the most part, there's no chatter...

The only time I've heard chatter is if I short shift into 2nd and hit the gas hard. I'll get some chatter from 2000 to about 2400 rpm before going away. If I'm in the same range but I don't wail on the gas, then there's no chatter. No chatter while casual driving. If doing performance driving, you'll be in higher RPMs anyway where no chatter occurs.

The one thing I've done to my driving habbits is to allow the RPMs to climb a bit higher before shifting gears. It actually helps me to ensure the engine is running in the sweet spot for optimum response and power.
