Default The secret to installing/removing the rear springs on a B6 A4

For a couple of weeks I have been planning to install my Stasis/Koni sport coilover setup on my 04 A4 Quattro 1.8T. Looked at all the posts and how-to's. When it came time to do it, I had the same major PITA problems with the rear springs as everyone here without a VAG spring compressor tool had...

Then called Stasis and got some helpful hints (not included in their instructions tho) that made it 10000X easier!

The secret is to loosen the nuts that attach the suspension subframe to the frame of the car (you don't need to remove the bolts themselves), along with the swaybar bolt, and the subframe then drops down and you can push it down a bit further and easily pull the spring (along with the top rubber mount) easily out. Amazingly simple, no messing with spring compressor tools, etc...

Hope this helps

Default Yes that works, but is not proper procedure. Extra caution is needed to avoid...

bending anything, and insuring that the sub-frame is not misaligned when the bolts are re-tightened. In addition, the correct re-tightening procedure for the bolts is essential. The steps described in the Bentley are required.
Inexperienced persons should not attempt this method.
The specified tool allows the springs to be removed and replaced quickly and easily without worrying about the possible complications or damage that "dropping" the sub-frame can cause.

Default Yeah, it's too expensive, but similar spring tools are available for half that price.

And the tool can be sold when it's no longer needed.

Default I've seen places which rent the tool...

Maybe in your area, an autoparts place will rent you the tool?

Default For one alternative spring tool example, I think either Eddie Mann, or Matt Devo posted

I havn't researched via the search yet, I will, and I have also been thinking about making one. When I get more info I will post it on this thread.

Default So, are you just icing me on those 12v heads? Over a month ago you said you'd send me a price.

Mom's car is just sitting waiting for replacement heads so I had to buy her a 100 to drive until it's fixed. Are you just not interested in selling them? Over a month ago you said you were sending me a price and description. My Mother-in-law, our mechanic and myself are all waiting for info...or should I just forget it???
