I've done it well over a dozen times without nary a problem. Always raise the subframe using a floor jack and make sure everything's aligned before tightening the carriage bolts.

I had this happen, even though my subframe wasn't dropped, so hopefully nothing driveline breaks as a result, b/c they will blame it on that. Usually spring compressors should to the trick.

And since those are stretch bolts, they must be replaced.

Audi advises they should only be used once, and replaced each time they are loosened.

A bit of info folks should be made aware of, to help them decide if dropping the sub-frame is really a good idea or not. ;O)
