Default Sure, there's correlation

when an ignition coil goes, you tend to run too rich and that ends up hurting the cats. It sounds like 02oettingerA4 probably drove a little too much on failed ignition coils. You can drive the car, but it can't be excessive nor can it be aggressive.

At any rate, the cat should be covered under warranty.

Default Even w/an aftermarket exhaust

you would have ruined that cat as well.

Default Four words: High. Flow. Cat. Legally.

If the stock one fails, you should be able to get a waiver to legally replace it with an aftermarket high-flow one.
