Shark fin removal

Has anyone tried to remove the shark fin to see what is underneath. Could it be removed and the hole fixed? I'd like to meet the German engineer who designed this montrosity that has ruined one of the best car designs on the market. The sales people are just pretending it doesn't look so bad.

I haven't looked into this, but do any of the Euro-spec cars have the fin?
I suspect that it's a Johnson Controls (or some other OEM) part, that works with US-spec satellite systems...
If I'm right, the fin could have been designed by one of Bangle's American buddies.
Just a theory.

I would almost go so far as to bet, if the German Engineering team that designed the B6 saw it, they'd be aghast after spending all the time they did to design the car to look so aerodynamic and having engineered in the other antennae.

My wife had to have the roof repainted on her 2002 Passat when a parking gate crashed on it.
I saw the job being done at the body shop to remove the rear-mounted radio antenna.
They had to take the inside roof liner out to get to the antenna wich is secured from the inside.
I would think the sharkfin could be the same.

I heard story's of people listening to Sirius in Alaska and Mexico, so Canadians should be able to get a signal, but it's kinda like Sat TV (DirecTV or Dish), they can not officially be subscribers
