Default Shifting issues on A4 3.0 2003

I am new to the forum and I wanted to get other Audi driver's thoughts on this. I am having shifting issues for instance, first gear sometimes it's really smooth, but most of the time it feels like I'm forcing the gear to be in place. Is this normal? Second, If I'm in netural and I try to shift to 4th gear I have to pretend like I'm shifting to 3rd and shift down or I'm shifting to 5th gear and down shifting to 4th. Is ths normal or I don't know how to drive a stick?

Thanks guys!

Default

Same here with 1st, only easy from a standstill. Other gears are pretty smooth on mine.

When you say adjusted what is that mean? I ran out of manu warranty this week and I've spoke to the dealer several times about this, but I just assumed that this was one of the flaws. I also couldn't duplicate the problem at the dealer.

Default i think those things are normal

they designed it so to prevent you from mis-shifting while driving. it helps if your car is completely stopped and your car is warmed up, when shifting into first. as for the 4th gear, make sure to pull straight down and not at some angle when tryign to go into 4th. if it goes from 3rd down to 4th properly, i think it's okay and it's just a mechanism to prevent you from going into 4th when trying to go for 2nd or 6th. ask your service advisor to check it tho. i kind of understand what you are describing, but it might be worse than my car.

Default the shifter linkage might need to be adjusted. take it to an independent mechanic

and see if he can adjust the shifter a bit. there are two adjustment bolts that can be accessed by removing the shift boot, etc. do a search for short shifter install and it will give you a better idea what i'm talking about
