Default Short review of Carbotech Bobcat brake pads (Stoptech 332mm BBK)...

I'd like to say thank you to EBG 18T [Eric] for trying the Bobcats in his Stoptech BBK several months ago and posting some comments on their performance as well as lack of dust. Based on his review I've decided to go the Bobcats for my car as well (still running Hawk HPS in the rear)...

My Stoptech BBK originally came with Axxis Ultimate pads. While I liked their braking performance I simply couldn't handle the extreme amounts of dust (extreme is an understatement in this case), scary wet weather performance and squealing (sometimes).

I've been running the Bobcats for about 3 weeks now and I like them a lot...

Performance: They feel very different. The Ultimates have an on/off feeling to them requiring a bit more attention when braking in city traffic whereas the Bobcats feel more linear and are easier to modulate. Basically the Ultimates let you know that you're running a BBK all the time (on/off feeling) while the Bobcats allow you to brake as gently as OEM or bite as well as the Ultimates sending you through the windshield. I prefer the Bobcats.

Oh and they still work well in the rain whereas the Ultimates are downright scary in wet weather conditions (well known problem with those pads, stfa for more info).

Noise: There was some squealing right after the install but they haven't made a sound since doing a proper bed-in procedure (about 2 weeks ago). I mean it, not a sound.

Dust: This is where they shine. I can not believe that almost 1 full week after washing my car the wheels still look clean. I fell in love with the CHs all over again (they look like crap when covered in brake dust).

*Please note that I'm running a BBK and I have no idea how well the Bobcats work with our tiny OEM front brakes*

I figured I might jazz up the review with some pics...

Front wheels while running Axxis Ultimate pads after about 3-5 days since washing them (200 km of city driving or so):

Thanks. 5mm spacers for the rear wheels are on order. Once they arrive I'll take more pics.

Default Cool... I'm not thrilled with the HPS wet performance. The other day, they were a little scary>

in heavy rain.
They felt like no brakes unless I stomped on them and then they grabbed after a few seconds.
Light braking felt like no braking.
I had to change how I drove the car, which was very annoying.

Not a good feeling in traffic on the highway while commuting. And I have the Brembo drilled rotors, which should help with wet braking.

I may have to try the Bobcats for my Brembos next time around. (or sooner!)

Default Try them out. I ran HPS pads on my OEM setup and the Bobcats feel better all around I think...

It's not really a good comparison tho (HPS with OEM, Bobcats with BBK).

STFA for Eric's review, I think he went into a bit more detail.

Default Thanks. Mike@PureMS is your man.

Or you can have Independent Tuning order them for you and save a bit on customs and shipping.

Default I might just give the Bobcats a go: I'm increasingly getting tired of my XP8's squeal...

How large a difference do you feel between wet and dry with the Bobcats? That's another thing that I'm not entirely happy about my XP8's.

I'll have to ask you for a ride when I move to GTA in about a month's time

Default With all the raving about the HPS pads, I never heard about this wet braking issue.

Maybe I just missed the comments. Glad this post came up since I am thinking about new front rotors and pads.
