its vibrating side to side like it may be loose or something... I've never noticed this before, which is why this is such a random question....

Its not vibrating its tensioning! That is the automatic tensioner and it fluctuates to minimize belt slap. Nothing to worry about unless it starts making noise.

does it actually sound like a bearing? A whinning or growling noise? It may make slight noise because it does shift side to side to tension the slap on the belt. Put a screwdriver on the actual item you think is making noise (a long screwdriver) and put your ear to the handle, the noise will actually transmit through the metal into the handle!

If you are not able to locate source of the noise by eg95og method, you got to take belt off and check bearings when they are not under the load by hand. If it is getting realy bad you shoud be able to feel extra play or wear.

Good call MadMax1. Hopefully it is the pulley cause those dont tend to be to exspensive. The sounds you are hearing are first signs of a bad bearing. You should try MadMax1's fix and this will isolate the problem just a bit more time consuming. While your at it, replace the belt. Whats your milelage?
