shutdown noise
when I turn my car off (usually after a short drive ) after everything shuts off, I hear a noise that I can only relate to an electric generator shutting down. It lasts about three seconds. I have no idea what it could be??? Any ideas? It does not happen all the time. I'm not real concerned about it, the car's under warranty....just want to know if it's normal or should I bring it in right away?

Re: shutdown noise
Some have attributed it to AC motor shutting off, others turbo spinning down. Having owned prior turbo cars, I recognize this sound as turbo(turbine)winding down.
Turbo is spinning anytime engine is running and airflow is moving through turbine blades, so you don't have to be running hard to hear that noise at shutdown.
Totally normal. Don't worry about it.

Re: shutdown noise
Your turbo is intercooled design, which means cooled by air and coolant, in addition to oil.
You'll notice an addtl radiator in front which is there to circulate coolant to the turbo. Oil is circulated around the turbo bearing.
Turbo is at it's hottest immediately after shutting off engine, as air, coolant and oil is no longer circulating thru and around it. This is why conventional oils can fry around turbo bearing jacket and turn to ash or coke...under extreme heat conditions.
