Default Significant digits in part numbers

How important is the 10th digit in part numbers?

I need to replace CD/radio and A/C control unit because a guy in a garage spilled coffee all over them causing a short in both.

I've been searching for used parts and sometimes I find parts that look identical, but their numbers differ by the last digit. For example my radio is 8E0 035 195 A, but I found a radio with 8E0 035 195 F. Will this be OK?

Sorry if this question has been answered before, but couldn't find an answer through search of this forum...

Default Last letter is a revision indicator. Same part, but changes or improvements have been made.

This has been my experience, anyway.

The "F" suffix will work, and is equivalent. .

My Audi is 2002 A4 3.0 Quattro.

Thanks for looking into it.

Default Re: Significant digits in part numbers

I called a dealer and he told me that the part number has to match exactly or differ by the last "X".

So if I have 8E0 035 195 A, the only other number that would be acceptable is 8E0 035 195 AX. As I mentioned, I found something with an "F" at the end.

Is he telling the truth or he would rather have me buy a new part from him?

Default The "X" tacked on to A, means the part is a reman exchange. ...

The PN I found is 8E0 057 195 F and is listed as a Symphony II for B6. The 035/057 is typically differennt manufacturer. If the Radio came out of a B6 A4, it will fitt your A4 no problem. for what it's worth, the dealers's reman exchange should only be a couple hundred with your A unit, and will have a warranty. If you get the F, be sure to get the security code that goes with it.
