<center><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/62942/rotor.jpg"></center><p>It was about time that something new would break.
This time my stock front rotor. It is missing a nice chunk of it. Since I don't have a digital camera, I'm using a random picture of a rotor. The arrows are pointing to the part that's missing. Well, its not really missing, it looks like a very very deep and long scratch on both sides of the rotor. It looks as if the caliper was making contact with the rotor at that point. I have never seen anything like that. I'll stop by the dealer tomorrow and see what they say. Anyone know what might cause this? Just a bad rotor after 16k miles or something wrong with the caliper?

look at the comments for figure 3, I think that describes my problem.<ul><li><a href="http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.stoptech.com/images/cracked_rotor_tmb.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.stoptech.com/whitepapers/warped_rotors_myth.htm&h=90&w=143&sz=7 &tbnid=DkM-sdo-TlgJ:&tbnh=55&

If so then, yes you are lucky your brakes are still there.
If no, then, dayam this is why BBK is needed.
And also a testament to the colossal weight of the Audis. German engineering with a little *** in there.. or rather a lot. 3300 lbs. is the dry weight for my year and model.
Anyway,
Dealer should cover this under warranty
Just say you gave oprah a ride and next thing you know, it feels weird when you brake.

That's a good one. The answer is embarrasing though. My friend, who knows more about audis than any audi mechanic I have ever met, took one look at it and started laughing. Well, he went on to explain that this is actually part of the rotor design. And yes, it looks the same on my other front rotor. I do a quick visual inspection of my tires and brakes every week when I wash my car and I have never noticed it. I also looked at the rotors of another friend of mine that also drives a 1.8 and its also there. So the mystery is solved. I just assumed it was rotor damage since I have never seen anything like that. As far as a BBK goes, I'm in the parts gathering process, these stock "brakes" need to go.
