so B7 A4 can fit S4 rear brakes.. and our B6 can as well
so why does B7 A4 rear brakes not fit our cars?
need clarification
this AZ post clearly states the carrier bolts match up, so carrier/calipers/rotors should swap over.

http ://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php?t=142760&highlight=brakes</a

best to stick with b6 s4 rears if you need it
honestly i've been rocking b7 a4 3.2 fronts and i dont see the need for the rears. i put new pads/rotors on the back 255mm and it works extremely well.
going from 288x25? to 320x30 up front is a tremendous upgrade but nothing like a BBK .
Plus i got rid of the school bus squeals thank god that drove me crazy. damn EBC junk pads were on all 4 they went into the garbage.
you can get used setup for $200 + SS lines + new rotors and pads + brake fluid flush. I'm sorry but i would never waste the labor to do it all and use used rotors/pads. They are too cheap given the amount of b7's made and the pads are pretty much the same size as the b6 s4,b7 a4.
while the hp-2 is cool you end up paying more for less contact patch based on what i saw. Plus you can put on 2006/2007 calipers versus year 2000. Half of the upgrade was upgrading to newer calipers so i didn't have to rebuild them to feel safe.

B5 with A8 front/rear upgrades make a huge difference in brake balance, less nosedive
and flat braking distribution even with 269mm rear disc.
while 300mm S4 setup is nice, the caliper/pad is not much larger than ours as well. upgrading to 288mm setup is a 43mm increase which greatly increase the sweep of the pad. only benefit of s4 setup is vented rotors which would be better on the track.
with only fat fronts the abs activates too early and front dives every time you brake.
the first disc brake system audi introduced in 1983 was 245mm rear rotor with 2500lb cars. it would be ignorant to believe 245/255mm is adequate for a 3500lb car. every other car in the class comes with bigger rear brakes than ours, it only makes sense.

i dont see any diving with my 320 fronts. matter of fact it is well balanced.
My fear is the fact the B6 S4/B7 A4 have bigger master cylinders to move the volume. if you add too much volume to the car, you will lose pressure, soggy brakes.
even doing the fronts alone is taking away from the stock system yeah? so doing rear setup without more brake volume flow may actually handle crappier?
you guys ever recode the settings for the ABS when you upgrade the brakes?

i don't know what you consider balanced, my old 90q with 256mm was decently balanced
thats with 245mm rear on a 3100lb car. then audi moved up to G60 276mm for B chasis cars.
but that is terribly undersized for a 3500lb car with 288mm front and even 312mm.
there is no way a rear brake system from a 1983 audi is going to be ok 20+ years later
miktip's pic, the stock rear brakes look like pugs

that would be like saying theres no way a 1.8 litre block thats 20 years old would be okay today
there are significant changes in the abs and materials used i'm sure.
but our motors are the same block essentially as 25+ years ago 1761cc.
the b7 a4 brakes are a good solution all around but you must also throw in the new ABS program and higher volume master cylinder into the mix.
