Default So I took my 18's off over the weekend....

cleaned them outside, inside, all over and put a coat of Rejex on. Hopefully it will help with making cleaning them in the future easier.

Sorry no pics of the cleaning process as my wife had the camera with our son at a play date (man I need to get my own digital camera).

An interesting observation (at least I found it interesting):
We all know that the rear wheels tend to get coated with brake dust on the outside of the wheel quicker than the front wheels do. I noticed when I had the wheels off the car that the inside of the rear wheels had much less brake dust than the inside of the front wheels. The wheels have only been in use on my car for 4 weeks and 600 miles so there wasn't a huge amount of brake dust, but the difference between the front and the rear wheels was noticable.

Any thoughts on why more dust on the inside of the front wheels than on the rears when the fronts get less dust on the outside than the rears do?

probably the way the air flows through each.

Default The front brake pads are bigger and do most of the stopping anyway...<edited>

so of course, they will be more dust inside the front wheels. As far as the outside, I would say that probably there is more air turbulence swirling up front vs. the rear wheels.

You should see my front two RS6 wheels...they look like they've been anodized...I gotta grab those bottles of Rejex from you!!!

Default I noticed something to that effect when I put new RS4 reps on

Now, with the offset down to et34 (et 42 + 8mm spacers), and possibly with the design of the wheel and the air flow through it, I get little to no dust on any wheel anymore. This is with same brakes that would turn my OEM sport wheels black within days (with the rears REALLY black).
This little bonus isn't something I'm complaining about... lol.

my wheels are always covered in brake dust with in 100 miles. I like my dusty brake pads though.
