Mt buddy has an 04 GLI.. he paid 23k for it in 04.... and the dealerships are offering him 20-21k for it with 55k on it!!!

Figure your car base MSRP was about $30 in 2005 (easy number to work with), Edmunds puts its current value (based on your signature list of accesssories and options) somewhere around $15-16k, so your car's actual market value is already close to, if not over, 55% original base msrp. Add to that, they will pay off your current note of $7000? Well sure...but they're not doing it for free you know...they will roll that $7000 into the cost of the 08.

So lets say the 08 is still MSRP $30k...they're going to give you a trade in value of $16k, add in $7k you still owe, so you're walking out the door with a car thats 3 years newer for $21k.

From where I stand its not that good a deal. Dealersw around here do this all the time...the only ones who ever win is the dealer...they're not there to be your buddy or to hand you the keys to a new car at a loss...they're there to make money on every single sale.

I might be way off base here, but watch out for the high pressure sales deadline...if you're not sure its a good deal, walk away...you'll get the same thing in the mail in a few months all over again.
