So once you place your order what is next...
What information should the dealer be able to provide?
What are some of the Key Dates:
Build?
Shipment?
Etc....?
Fill me in on what I should be asking for, also if I make changes how much does that delay things? Is there a point until which changes can be made without delay?

Your salesperson should call every couple of weeks with an update.
Just have them either fax over the update sheet, or tell you which production code stage it is in. Here are the codes:
A - Order Entry/ order entered into system
B - Regional Release
C - Release To Factory
D - Release To/ In Production/ Under Construction
E - Checkpoint in Production
F - Production Complete/has a VIN number!/Ready To Ship/ Exiting
G - Loaded On Ship
H - Ship Released / shipped from Germany
HA - Ship In Transit/ Vessel
I - Arrival In Port
IA - Ship Unloading In Port
L - Loaded On truck / Rail Car (if needed) to be delivered
N - On the truck
S - Delivered at Dealer/ Quality Assurance Check
It takes approx 4 months on average for a car to arrive after having been ordered from scratch. Sometimes, a dealer can still change a similar car in C status before it is built.
