Default generally i work about 1000-1500 off the ask price on autotrader

for a car of that price.

so $17K wouldn't be absurd if you want to wash your hands off it.

assuming everything is good, all records, synth, non smoke, non-modded, etc.

things like no tiptronic in some areas is a big minus, no 4 heated seats would be a minus, no xenon's a minus, no bose a minus, smoking = big minus.no transferable 100K warranty big big minus. stuff like that. i assume you've done the timing belt its about time, and brakes and clutch are bout done for too on the manual.

if i wanted your car in this market i'd be offering closer to 16.5 TOPS if everything was in order and all maintenance was done as if you were going to keep it to 150K miles. I don't know what options you have exactly. each market is different. i'm a little on the stingy side. Most AW'ers are unrealistic on what they expect to get.

You can waste 3 months selling it or you could sell it quick, eat some cost, and be in your new hotness.. Thats part of the TCO you gotta think about.

you should play on the "no tax" from private seller, and maintenance records, and for damn sure make sure it has no mods visible, get rid of em.

carmax and the dealer are about 8-15% less than KBB TRADE-IN..

Default Why do you say timing belt should have been done by now...

Recomended is 75k but my service writer said 60k is better..i would think 50k is way too early, no? also considering its about 2k to do too so ive heard...kinda expensive to do then just give away with car...kinda like putting on new tires so the car sells...sorta a waste in my mind.

Default hmm now that i think about it, 18k is just a wee bit too high, depends if you're a smoker...

heated seats...etc. all in all, it should sell for somewhere low-mid 17's

Non-smoker. Interior is perfect. No heated seats (I'm in FL, what's the point?)

Default Yeah, well your figure for tops was what I was willing to walk away from...

my goal is to get $15.5-16.5k. More is obviously better, less isn't out of the question ($15k is my lower limit).

I have no heated seats, but in FL nobody cares about that. Non-smoker. Brakes were done at 47k miles. Timing belt is not going to be done by me (my dealer told me $1.2k for it, and since it can wait until at least 60k, I'm not doing it). It's a 5-speed, but the clutch is in absolutely perfect shape.

The joke about aw'ers is that they expect to still get $40k for a 2000 S4 with 60,000 miles on it. You're right, overall they're unrealistic. I figure that the bottom KBB for private sale is a baseline for what I can afford to get rid of this car for and still not be walking funny from the assraping we call depreciation.

I'm going to do the no-tax part of the sale, I figure I can wait around to get a new car, I'm in no rush. I figure I could possibly get $17k for it in the local environment based on Autotrader and other cars in my area. And if it takes a month or two, I'm not going to be upset. Nissan will still be making 350z's then. ;-)

Default I'd be more than happy to get mid 17's for it.

I've worked out my financial situation figuring that I'll get the low price of $15k for it, so I leave myself plenty of breathing room for some extra cash.

Default honestly my 100K warranty covers timing belt failure

so i'll wait a bit, but it would suck to have it fail. You can do the waterpump&thermostat and V belt while you got everything apart. i'll probably wait till close to the end of the warranty and do it. but it was one of the things i would value myself as a buyer at 50K miles.

It does matter to alot of folks. If you are out of warranty and it does go, as it has on a few people here, you probably are going to buy a used motor.

some warranties do not cover timing belt failure and that would sux. I would not own a b6 over 50K without a 100K warranty too many items to go wrong.

fwiw my car came with 3K old tires when i bought it used. one less thing to worry about.
