Default Solution to Thermal Race Exhaust Drone...(long)

I purchase the Thermal Race System from a fellow enthusiast for a great price. I have read threads about the power increase and the "imfamous drone" that accompanies this exhaust system (especially underload and at HWY speeds) and everything that's been said is true.

So, I went to a local muffler shop and they recommended a center 3" Bullet oval performance muffler installed right after the dp and before the "Y" split.

Well, it WORKS...no loss of flow and the drone is now minimized, honestly you can barely hear it. The annoying drone sounds more like a purrr (slightly louder than idle) and this is below 3K running at 75-80MPH in 6th gear cruising on the HWY. Above 4K it sounds like a well tuned V6.

So if you want to eliminate the drone, and you have an OEM CAT installed with the Thermal Race get a Bullet 3" performance oval muffler (PN# 300160) this set-up will sound slightly more aggressive than APR exhaust, but with better gains (my current set-up). BTW this set up with a TEST PIPE is still loud and the drone buzzes the cabin...

If you have a Test Pipe and Thermal Race go with Bullet 2.5" performance oval(PN# 212160 oval), you may lose a little flow, but this should make the drown more civil.

Lastly, the Bullet 3" performance oval muffler was $80. They also make a round muffler in the same specs as mention above.

http://www.bulletperformance.com/411_perf.htm</a

Default I was going to install a 3rd resonator like you had when I had my AWE exhaust

The issue I had is that there was no way to know for sure if the drone would be reduced and since I owned an Avant the issue is compounded.

Also if the exrta resonator didn't work then it would be money wasted and the cost of parts and labour here in Canada is a lot more than what is charged in the US.

Default If the original pipe diameter is 3" and the muffler/resonator is the same diameter

and is straight through (no bends) with packing around it, by theory you are just deadening the sound. The air is still traveling through the same size hole. There's a cross section on their website that shows their design.

I could be completely wrong, but the butt dyno feels no performance loss.

Default You made the correct choice. I almost sold the Thermal a week after the install, but I found

this local exhaust place and was lucky.

Also, I got such a good deal on Thermal that I had at least $400 to play with in resonators and piping before it would have been a loss.

If the ID of the resonator/muffler is the same as the opening then there should be no noticable loss

Indeed interior diameter is most important.

Default How did you order it? Call/website?

I can't navigate their website for the life of me. Maybe it's my browser, but the links don't seem to work on their site.
