Default some help please?

hey guys, i know this is an audio question, and i posted there too, but i thought you guys might be able to give me input a little quicker.

i recently had my bumper installed and they threw the other one in there, moving my sub+amp and i think it created a problem.

My sub doesn't hit all the time. please reference the attached picture:
<img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/69842/picture43.jpg">

Here's the thing, whenever i rotate the connector where the Green arrow is pointing, the sub comes on for a second and then cuts out when i let go of the connector. my initial guess was that the connection got bad and that i just needed a new connector. So i went out and bought one, but i noticed another thing.

The Red arrow is pointing to a small, thin wire attached to both the white and red connectors. the end appeared to be frayed as if it had been unplugged from something. Could this be the source of the problem?

I was about to create the new connector when i noticed the smaller one, do you guys know where this wire is intended to go? thanks much,

Default definitely terminate that exposed wire. that can pick up intereference or cause a short...

i believe thats a ground wire to help eliminate noise such as alternator whine, etc

or it could be a remote turn on lead for you amp.

Default actually, i saw the ground wire grounded to the floor of the trunk, so i don't think it's that

but i'll make sure to cover it up if it's not used for anything

That's a ground for the RCAs...it's usually not used unless you have noise issues.
