I have a 2005.5 A4 3.0 Cab. with the sport package 17" wheels and 235/45 17 tires. I'd like to go with a wider tire, but keep the same wheels. Will a 245/50 fit on this wheel? Will it look ridiculous?
Thanks and be gentle...I'm new here.

You want to try to keep the overall diameter of the tire to be the same. This way, your spedometer remains accurate.
Going from a 235/45 to a 245/50 not only increases the width, but will also increase the size of the sidewall making the overall diameter to be larger.
I know that for 18" wheels, you can go from a 235/40 to a 255/35 and keep the diameter the same (within 5%) and have a wider tire.
You'll want to look at a wider tire, but with a lower profile.
