Default Speaker grill attachment in door panel... Plastic heat-rivet design? Anyone familiar with it? (Pics)

I cracked my speaker grill a while back, and ordered a replacement. However, Audi uses this sort of plastic heat-rivet design, where poles on the new grill are melted and pressed down to form a rivet on the other side of the panel. (The poles are like plastic tubes about 3/4" tall. I could post a photo tonight.)

Does anyone know of a tool to do this or a way to improvise? See the pics below of what it looks like.

Default i would try to use a little torch or a heat gun.... (m)

if you heat them up to the point that you can use something to press it down it should work. just be careful not to apply too much heat because it will disconnect from the grill itself. it might even just melt to the point it should kind of like heat shrink tubing.

just my .02.... let us know how it works out...

Default used a hot soldering iron tip before to melt/smash the plastic pins so they stay

just be sure to do it in a well ventilated area, the smoke can be nasty

Default Drill them out like a normal rivet..

Use a drill bit the same diameter as the "poles" so you wont make the holes in the door panel much bigger. You proably would have to drill all the way through the broken speaker grill but so what, it's broken right?

Default Yeah, that's how I was thinking of doing it. I wasn't sure how much clearance there is (more)

between the speaker and the grill. i.e. how mashed they'd need to be. Any idea?
