BG Frigi-Fresh (or some similar name) works well too.

Default I get the same thing, smells like rotten water...

could it be condensation?
And you don't want to use Lysol, it's a sanitizer, not a deoderizor. Use "Oust".

Default Same here

The dealer (stealer?) said they could clean the system but that it would cost $100. They checked the drain and said it was fine, although there frequently is no water dripping out.

Try shutting off the A/C a minute or so before turning the car off

Default Are you either smoking or driving with the recirculation on?

or worse still, BOTH?

Default no, it happens when you first start the car...

after having the a/c on from before. Example, you have the a/c on for a while, then you turn your car off and don't return for a long time or over nite. You come back and start it up and get this fowl smell.

Default have almost always had it too...

I switch mine to fresh air every time I start, doesn't go away. Dealer sprays, doesn't fix. Dealer just replaced filter (said it'd gotten wet), didn't matter. It's worse when I use econ, & worse still if it's been raining. I think maybe there's some manufacturing flaw that allows the filter to get wet, maybe where it's placed (from what I understand, in the engine bay, up close to passenger firewall...i.e. a place where I'll never bother to find it.)
