Default Starting an audio install...and I was considering tapping into the power distribution block...

like many of you have. To get to this power block, as far as I can tell from old posts I have read, I have to remove the knee bolster.

OK...here is where I sound like an idiot: what is the knee bloster? Is that the 'official' term for it? Please help me identify roughly where it is in the illustration above. Thanks.

Default Tap into the battery for audio installs. It's safer and less load on the cars..

current Electrical wiring.

And put in your own fuse within 18" of the battery.

Default #17 (more)

remove the 2 bolts holding it in on the front. remove fuse panel (#20) and the one bolt there. knee bolster will slide out/down easily.

tapping into the power distribution block is perfectly fine.

Default Tapping into the block is not fine. Take it from people who have done

many audio installs.

Default Could someone tell me where the powere dis. block is?

I've opened the knee bolster several times for other installs, and was wondering if someone could describe what the power distribution block looks like, and where it is back there. Thanks

Default OK...referring to the diagram in my original post...

...first thing you do is remove panel #17. Once that is out, you really can't miss it under the dash as there are a bunch of relatively thick red cables going to it. It's kinda above the dead pedal area. Like I said, though...take 17 off and you should have no problem finding it.

Here is a link to a post from about a year ago with some pictures of it (thanks to a4Pat).

Click

Default By the way, once I took off panel #17 and looked around, it became very clear...

...that there are numerous easy options for getting a 4 guage wire throught the firewall (and keeping it away from the ECM).

So, rather than 'risk' connecting to the power distribution box (and the jury still seems to be out on the actual risk involved)...I decided to just go right to the battery since it was so simple.
