the way I see it...
the laptop shouldn't be anything fancy. Just good enough to handle the most basic tasks. Fancy is for your powerhouse desktop anyway.
That said my laptop is "fancy" from 3 years ago. In technology terms that means it's run of the mill now, but it does it's job fine.

yeah my does does work online at home with his laptop on a vpn. If he wasn't on a VPN we'd have 6 computers networked on our home network 
I forgot about the practical application with a vag-com... definitely worthwhile.
