I have my EQ for CD's set to:
Bass +6
Middle +2
Treble -1
I find the low-end output to the subwoofer to be abysmal. And almost non-existent if the fader is too far to the rear. My newer pop/rock CD's play decently...but some older CD's or jazz CD's that are mixed quieter, are begging for some more watts.
The speakers seem to be able to handle the power though, because if I hook up my laptop via a cassette adapter and fiddle around with the volume/EQ settings in Winamp, I get decent volume and sound.
Might invest in an amp to start with, and see if this makes enough of an improvement. Still, I don't regret not buying the Bose, since I suspect I can get better stuff in the aftermarket at a better price.
I'm not one of those guys who's looking for that earth-shattering subsonic bass that can be heard a mile away, so I'm hoping that a simple amp upgrade will be all I need.

It is just a regular full-range speaker, a bit larger than the one on the dash top.
When you tell people that you have a 10-speaker system, they are more impressed than they should be.

Is that false advertising? Unless it is a different speaker somewhere, that is not hooked up yet.
A sub-woofer should respond to low frequencies. If I put something on top of that rear-deck speaker, it should bounce around when I play "Men in Black"
