Stop complaining about "leather seating surfaces" for the 2003
Because that's how ALL mainstream cars are.
Audi is not "ripping you off".
The sides and rear of the seats are NEVER full leather in any car. They are always a color matched vinyl.
And if you want to talk door panel inserts, many makes use vinyl there as well, just not all. If your door inserts are true leather consider yourself lucky b/c a lot of makes cheap out there too now.
I worked in the family auto/marine upholstery business for over 5 years and I NEVER saw a car come in where areas which were NOT seating surfaces were leather. The only reason why I say all MAINSTREAM cars come that way is b/c in my time working there I never had the honor of working on a RR or Bentley and I would not be surprised if it were 100% leather all around.

that's what I figured about RR etc...
to have leather last as long as vinyl you have to be VERY good to it. not to say that it won't last you 8 yrs/100,000mi but anything after that it will only hold up if you babied it.

Premium leathr option for 3.0 states full leather
I just ordered a 2003 A4 3.0 with the Premium leather seat option. My understanding is all surfaces are leather. Is this true? I'm new to leather seats in cars so any info would be appreciated.
Thanks

Audi is one of the few companies that actually does use all leather...
Hence the distinction in 'leather seating surfaces'. I see what you're saying though and I agree with your point. If it's good enough for 99% of the cars on the road, it's good enough for us. I think the complaint stems from the fact that other Audis (including the 3.0) do get the full leather treatment.

key diff between Audi and the rest
the back of our seats have the plastic shell eliminating need for leather all around.
domestic cars and many asian don't have the plasic shell forcing them to use vinyl to cut costs. seems like most euro cars have that. *shrug*

Yes, if you order the Premium Leather....
That's what you get, all leather. Your paying an extra $1,000.00 so that the sides and backs of your seats will be leather.
Hey, if that's your thing, great. I'm just happy to be getting the leather seating surfaces in my 03 1.8T.
