I just bought a 2005 audi a4 1.8T ultrasport (6M). When the car is first started and the clutch is released in first gear there is a nasty little grinding sound at the top of the clutch throw. The dealership said this was the abs sensor doing a self test. Does this sound right? Has anyone else heard this sound before? Please help. Thanks.

I'm happy to hear that...thanks...I must admit it is a very unattractive sound and I almost threw up when I heard it the day after I bought my car. Hopefully that is all it is.

LOL. Same thing happened to me. If you listen closely, the sound is not related to the clutch at all but to vehicle speed. When it's been resting for some time it'll cycle the ABS when it reaches 3 MPH or so. Do this test if you like: turn the car on one morning, move until you get the sound, turn the car off and on on again. This time you WONT get the sound bec the ABS already did its thing.

There must be hundreds of posts here on this noise. It's the first question most people ask. Your dealer guy knew what he was talking about. No worries.
