we managed to close the lid with something in the way - i guess - because the latch operates but the right side of the door seems to be hung up on something. cant see any easy way to remove the wood trim and dont want to damage it while feeling around in the narrow gap. any suggestions?

inside there you will see the push pin that keeps the glove box closed.
push it in with your finger or screwdriver and it should open up.
this has happened several times to me
