The reason I decided to go with the K04 was two reasons. First I didnt not want my car to look any different from stock for warranty issues. (yes any dealer can figure it out) but visually it looks no different then stock whereas the E05 has bright blue annodized wastegate. Secondly the E05 is a rebuilt turbo, whereas the K04 is a factory part from BorgWarner. With that the E05 only has a 6 month warranty through eurospec who modifies the turbos, where the K04 comes with a 1 year warranty through BorgWarner. Also both the E05 and K04 use the exact same software and fuel injectors so the power difference (if any) will be slim. Yes the E05 will be a more responsive turbo with less lag and better spool Im sure, but net power will be very similar. If you dont care about warranty and you are confident in the E05 turbo then I would definately go for that. I mean its only $200 more. But if your a skeptic like me, go for the K04 which has been on the market for a few years with proven reliability.

Depending on these numbers I will either go with the E05 or go with a bigger turbo.
AFAIK K04 cars produce around 240 crank, and for the price it is a good mod, but I need a bit more than that. I also think that stage 3 numbers are nice, but they cost 2.5 times more than a k04 kit would cost. I'm hoping an e05 with twin intercoolers, and full exhaust will making around 270, if so, then i'll get that, if not, my car won't see a turbo upgrade for a while.

yes it does have a dual intercooler, full exhaust (including a race cat) and taller gears aswell as a clutch upgrade. But the only things that could be adding to that power are the Dual IC's and the Race Cat and exhaust. So i definately think 270hp is possible with a K04. Dont look at the B5, although our cars are very similar and the engine is the same, the fuel delivery is very different. The larger fuel injectors could play a large part in that 270hp. More fuel more power, yes on the last A4 you had to upgrade the Fuel pressure regulator, but thats different from upgrading the actual injectors. I guess it all depends how much money you have to spend. if money is no object go t28 forsure. But if things like money and warranty are a concern go with something else. Personally Id rather get a k04/E05 for like $2k and get dual IC's and race cat for another $1k ($300 for race, $650 for Dual IC's), then spend another $1k on a new clutch (maybe less if you can get it installed cheaper. After that youve spent around $4k which is right around a base T28 kit. Add on a race cat to the T28, ($750 from PES) and an intercooler upgrade, not to mention a clutch upgrade which would be a MUST with the T28 and your well over $6k. That if you dont have an exhaust. So if you dont have an exhaust, and if your paying someone to do the install, a nicely running T28 kit will run you $8k. Also brakes would be smart at that point so theres anywhere from $500 to $2500. Thats alot of cash, which is why I went K04. On a side note I also installed the K04 myself, which was fairly easy because its a simple bolt on, bolt off. The T28 would definately be more involved, although Im sure after doing the K04 install I could do that to, but not too many people would be comfortable doing so. I can guarantee you though, a car running a K04/E05 with Dual IC's, race cat, and a clutch upgrade, will drive better and outperform a car with just a t28 which is the same exact price.
