Default Swapping out the New South Power Gasket for the Evo Heatshield...

<center><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/63774/dscn2119.jpg"></center><p>
Did a couple of things to the car tonight. First I went back and added some thread sealant to the APR injector seats. Car ran great without it, but APR recommended I go back and add the sealant. At the same time I decided to install the New Evo heatshield and replace the Power Gasket I had been running for about 10K.

As you can see in the pic, the New South Power Gasket is in great shape, no warping that others have reported. The Evo Heatshield that I received was the wrong gasket. No biggie it happens.

I ordered the correct one, but was sent the larger port intake. So there goes the swape this weekend. Just gonna install the stock intake gasket back and then install the Heatsheild when the correct one arrives.

Here's a pic of the Stock Gasket, the Big intake Port Evo Heatshield and the New South Power Gasket.

Default Drew, I've been putting off installing the Evo and really...

...appreciate the pictures. Thankfully, mine is the right size ports. How long does the install take (and to elongate the brace hole). Thanks!

BTW I used to think the injector nozzles were so precisely aligned (especially with the long noses) that the thicker gasket would screw up the geometry and lead to all sorts of atomization problems. Then I saw the 190HP injectors are the normal short/stubby nose nozzles and figured it wasn't as critical over such a narrow change in the full intake airstream. What are your thoughts on this?

Default Hey Sean...

No problem, the install takes about 45min to an hour. It's not too bad. You don't have to remove the manifold entirely, as there are several vacum lines connected to it. Let me know before you do the install and I'll give you some tips.

I thought about the injector placement being further back with the heatshield too, evidently it doesn't matter, my car made gobs of power and has been running great. Mike has been running it with no issues, and TTSchwing (Steve) who I respect very much saw modest but effective gains with his tests.

The car is running really strong, when I had the manifold slightly off I looked down into the cylnder head and the valves looked pretty, no carbon buildup. : ) I'm not sure how big the gains are, if any, but any time you can reduce intake temps especially here in CA with 91 octane and the summer weather, it's a good thing. : ) Let me know when you're ready to do the install.

Default Its like a n/a carb spacer.

Basically moves the intake manifold slightly away from the cylinder head to reduce heat transfer from the head onto the intake and try and maintain low intake temps.

Default Hmmm now you got me thinking!

The Aquamist is a bit pricey, but might be worth it. Decisions, decisions. : )

Default Minimal HP gains if any, but my thinking is...

Anytime you can reduce the intake temps on our cars it's a damn good thing. : )
