Default Switching ECU?

Hey guys,
Im planning on getting a second ECU and chip it then swap it with my stock one. I was wondering if it will cause any problems if I switch ECU's and will it affect anything else in the car? Also what type of ECU do I need to get? Should I get one off the same car as mine, or will an ECU from an 02 5 spd work?

Default Won't work

The immobilizer is built into the ECU. If you're trying to hide that the car is chipped from the dealer, you're going to have problems. Currently the dealer is the only one who can program the immobilizer into your new ECU, which requires a VIN.

APR is working on a way to clone the ECU, but who knows when that will be ready.

Default I believe it is torque factory

You can get a cloned ECU right now I think it is offered from a few of the companies one of them being torque factory I think. Prices begin at about 500

Default There was a rumor on AZ that GIAC could clone an ECU

After someone made a call, they determined it was false. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think TF is a distributer for GIAC? Since they don't have a website, it's hard to find out.

Default Yes you can

Important thing is that you get the same ECU as what you are currently running...here are some of the ECU numbers out there:

8E0909518F (Tip, Automatic)
8E0909518E (CVT)
8E0909518G (Quattro,Stick)

What you need to do to get it to work is to contact your dealer and ask for an immobilizer code (seven digits) to program the new ECU with.<ul><li><a href="http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/tour/pin-skc.html">Ross Tech Immobilizer code</a></li></ul>
