Default I think its safer with the TIP..I have a manual with Neuspeed Chip and already slipped Clutch ones..

But it was more my fault cause I released the clutch quick while reving hard up a steep hill carrying 4 extra people inside my A4.If I had a Tip/Automatic that day,I would'nt even have that problem....I learned to start using my handbrake more often during traffic in San Francisco.

Default Tip tranny series and torque limits. 310 newton meters. Hard data.

The 2.7t uses the ZF 5HP24 with a torque limit of 309ft lbs. A specially modified 5HP19 was used in a few 2.7ts, with a limit of around 300ft lbs.

The A4 gets the 5HP19 ( FLA or HPA series - I don't know, but both have the same limit ) with a limit of 310 newton meters.

"As well as weight reduction on certain transmissions, it is important to increase torque capacity to enable large series transmissions to be replaced by a smaller series. Decisive in this direction is knowledge about customer related duty cycles. Extensive measurements on public roads were evaluated. These showed that current traffic conditions do not allow long periods of full load running, enabling the test times of the high torque range to be significantly reduced. In comparison to the first layout design the 5 HP 19 and 5 HP 24 endures a 17% respectively 25% higher torque. (figure 4)."

Default Not all of the Tips are the same. Different engines get Tips that can handle different torque levels

As April posted below, the Tip in the A4 can handle about 228 ft-lbs, as opposed to the 309 ft-lbs of the 2.7T Tip.

Default True. Valve bodies, seals, and torque converters are all different.

The actual case size varies a lot too.
