Default temperature gauge acting strange

recently, my 2004-3.0QA's temperature gauge has been acting strangely. After a cold start, the gauge sits at "cold" for a while, then jumps to 1/4 in a few seconds. then it drifts fairly quickly to 1/2 and then is stable at that point. is this the way other folks' gauges behave?

well, it isnt overheating, so it's not a worry - just different. it used to sit on cold for a while, and then climb steadily to midgauge. now it jumps from cold to 1/4 with nothing inbetween.

Default yeah, if it does exactly what you say and jumps from one point to another

your sender is either on the fritz, or the guage might be getting stuck.

Default sounds normal....can vary with how hard you drive your car or how much you idle

when you first drive it in the morning. The engine needs to warm up and of course it doesn't always warm up smoothly.
