2005 A4 Ultrasport 1.8T, Cold, Premium, Lighting, Bose (xm), etc with all the options 6-speed moro blue w/ ebony interior
the dealer wouldn't tell me the lowest price they'd go but got down to $350/month lease (15k miles/year) w/ $4k down (all fee's, first month payment, and cap cost reduction) as well as they'd take my car and pay off what I owe- about $9,500 (details in the sig) and would sell it on the lot for a $3-5k profit. KBB for my car is $12,700 so I'm not to excited about the trade-in part.
So is this a decent price? the car is an 05 with about 140 miles on it (driven from another dealership still wrapped up) and the new B7 style is out so I'm sure the dealer wants to get rid of it. It is also the first of the month so no big sales deals but I am in no rush.
opinions and advice welcome, thanks!

Monthly is low, down payment is higher. Still not too bad for the type of car you are getting. For comparison, my '03 CVT 1.8T with most options was 2k down and $340 a month, 12k a year for 48 months. (sticker was $30.5)

The way I look at it is they will be making $3k+ on my car on the trade as they said they will put it on the lot and have people already interested (also if I sell it private party I can get $3-4k above what I owe) then $4k upfront means $7-8k down and $350 a month. I believe the invoice for the car is $33k or so and it has been on the lot for a while and the B7 is out.
with a 36 month lease it works out to about an extra $200/month assuming $0 down and disregarding time-value-of-money which turns it into $550/month w/ $0 down.
I'm just trying to justify the expense. I can afford it but I'm still trying to save as much as possible for a house downpayment in the near future (for now apt living is most practical since I'm 21).
I think if they drop $1,500 off the downpayment or $45-50/month off the lease I would be more inclined to get the paperwork moving

Not anymore. lol With 7-8k down, that is too much. They are making a lot in the deal. Doesn't sound like a good deal or them being hungry. I'd renegotiate a better down payment or have them lower the monthly. Or if you can hold out a bit longer and try selling it yourself, you'll likely do a lot better. The trade is often what messes up a good deal for a new car. BTW, I know your dilema. I am so tempted by the new B7 it is killing me. But I too am in an apartment and I can hardly keep up with my bills as it is. So I am trying to behave. It really sucks being a car nut. ; )

I told the salesman several times that I have 2 interested buyers for KBB ($12,700) and can sell the rims for $7-800 to give someone a deal so thats $13,500 which would put $4k in my pocket. If they wanted to give me $4k down $350/month w/out the trade I think I'd be more interested.
My car runs perfectly and has a warranty until end of June and I really like it so I don't mind holding onto it but I'd rather move into a new one. It is the first of the month anyway so maybe towards the end of the month the dealer will want to move the car quicker.
I agree with being a car nut it really puts a strain on the finances.

going by monthly payment is the worst way to make a deal on a lease. Need to know money factor, residual value, etc. Also I personally wouldn't put that kind of cash down on a lease. $4k down is only saving you about $80/mo on the lease.

I asked residual, total sale price, money factor, etc and was ony told that 36 month is the best lease and that the residual is above 50%. When I speak to them next I'll ask for all the details. for now nothing is in writing and I am in no rush.
as of now the #'s don't work for me so we'll see what happens and what other info I get.
