Default For those w/ "squeaking" bumpstops: the WD40 trick sort of worked...

I followed Jin's and Mike Kim's previous advice (thanks guys), and the squeaking from the front bumpstop rubbing against the dust boot has been significantly reduced. Only when the suspension travel is significant can I hear any noise. Since the bumpstop/dustboot assembly is compressed even when the car's jacked up (unlike the rear), it's a bit difficult to lube things effectively. We'll see how long this fix lasts.

As a side benefit, when I reinstalled my front wheels and torqued the bolts down, I seem to have gotten rid of the very slight rotor warp (I think) that I was hearing with my front right brake. I suspect that the tire shop had overtorqued one or more of the wheel bolts and this was causing uneven contact with the pads. Does this sound plausible? Anyway, I'm glad that sound is gone too.

This is a picture of the rear bumpstop and dustboot

Click on the link for a detailed explanation (better than I can provide) of bumpstops from H&R.

After removing the wheels for better access, I shot WD40 where the bumpstop and dustboot contact each other as best as possible and turned the dustboot around a few times. I may go back and try to apply some Teflon grease in there if the squeaking comes back.

http://www.hrsprings.com/site/technical/bumpstop.html</a
