Approx 3.5 months.
I think 3-4 months is average. Mine only took an incredible 2 months which is really quick. That's more like the exception, and not the rule. A lot of it depends on timing. Dealerships usually place their orders about once a month, and the factory in Germany only makes USA cars at specific times of the month. Just make sure your dealership is on top of it, and periodically gives you updates. Faxed copies help. Every now and then, we hear horror stories about people not getting their cars until 4-6 months later.

It takes 3 to 4 months. Here are the basic status codes the dealer sees.
B status is when the car shows in a dealer's allocation - 3 1/2 to 4 1/2 months to delivery. Usually order entered mid-month. Surest way to get exactly what you want. You should get a request number ( used to track car prior to vin# assigned ) within a few weeks of factory allocation acknowledgement.
C status is production release. The factory allocates parts/options/colours to build car. Can be changed if in early status - need to keep close eye to make sure changes are acknowledged by factory in time. - 3 months to delivery.
D status is when everything is locked down and being built. The car should have a vin# at this time.
F status hapens when the car is being processed for the port for shipping.
HA is when the car is shipped. About 4 to 6 weeks to go.
The next step is IA status. Car is in port over here. Depending on port authorities, etc. you should see the car in a few weeks.

Ordered Black/Ebony Avant 3.0 on 11/1/02. Finished production (got VIN) on 1/28/02. Arrived in port of San Diego 2/18/02 (21 days!) Picking up on 2/28 (just in time to get the 2.9% financing).

One month behind ...
Ordered Silver/Ebony Avant 1.8 on 11/29/02. Finished production about three weeks ago, and dealer can't tell me much more than that. I am expecting it sometime around April 1st.
