Default For those of you interested in the weight savings of the Stoptech 332 BBK...

I just received an email from Stoptech customer support person, Matt Weiss, who stated:

"A typical 332 rotor and hat assembly is about 16.5 lbs. A caliper is approximately 8.25 lbs."

For those who care, that means the Stoptech rotor represents a 1 pound savings over the stock 1.8T rotor and a 3 pound savings over the 3.0L rotor. It also means the Stoptech rotor is 12mm bigger and only .5 pounds heavier than the Alcon 993TT rotor. Not bad, IMO.

Now, for the caliper. The Stoptech caliper is 1.75 pounds lighter than the stock caliper and a whopping 11.75 pounds lighter than the B5 S4 caliper. It is also 1.75 pounds lighter than the Porsche 993TT BBK caliper which is touted as one of the lightest. Excellent news, since we know stoptech is careful about R&Ding their kits for our specific application.

All in all, good news that makes it even more difficult to choose my next BBK. Cheers! Mike

Default You can't go wrong with alcon, ap, brembo, stoptech...

i'd guess 95% of the people who purchase BBK's on their A4's B5 or B6 won't ever come close to making full use of the brakes in a track scenario.

Default Probably right Paul, but after a near miss at Sebring, i'm trying...

to put a lot of thought into such an expensive upgrade. These B6s are much harder to stop than the B5. Not sure exactly why, but it almost cost me my car. I had to dump it on the inside of the track in the sand to avoid a collision. I just would like to find the lightest bbk out there for the money. No $6000 alcons for me

Default The F50 caliper was tested in Grassroots Motorsports and (edited)...

They found it to throw off the brake bias on a B5 S4 to the extent that it increased stopping distances over a Stoptech kit and over the stock brakes. I'm sure fade was greatly reduced though. Here ya go. It's also published on Stoptechs site and on page 95 of the Feb, 2004 Grassroots Motorsports issue. Hope this helps. Cheers! Mike

Default I've done some research on that and although that is most likely true, eventually i plan on running

an upgraded rear brake system or work on balancing out the bias in other ways should it become an issue. Do you know if the testing was done with 332 or 355?

Default Just updated the graph, the 355 was much worse than the 332, but it was done on both (more)...

Bea really careful with doing a 4-wheel conversion as at that point the platform became unstable without the EBD or ABS activated. This was a dangerous set-up. I'd stick to buying a balanced system. Don't take a chance with your life if you'll be doing some serious driving. Cheers! Mike

Default I knew this BBK was lighter then OEM just from the weight of the boxes...

Because the boxes felt heavier when I put the OEM brake parts in them. But aside from all the weight savings, the improvement in braking is also measureable - as in much shorter distance. They are nothing short of amazing when compared to OEM. I'm actually using my brakes more often just so I can feel how good they work. What's also great about them is the low dust (seemingly cleaner material) from the Carbotech Bobcat pads. Hard to beat for the price/performance - get them.
