Default those of you with noisy lifters (esp. @ high mileage) - changing them is WELL worth it.

took my car to my local indy shop for an 80K mile how's-your-father.

i'd been experiencing about a 3-4 mpg decrease in fuel mileage and the car just didn't feel quite like it was running at 100% power. was also experiencing a bit of boost surge in 4th & 5th at moderate throttle. i had also noticed that the valvetrain seemed to be a bit more clackety-clackety than it used to, but figured that was just a trait of the old 1.8.

mechanic called me after dropping it off and wanted to change the lifters. along with that, he changed the N75 and coolant temp sensors.

after getting the car back, WOW what a difference. the car feels smoother than i can ever recall, back to the smoothness of the APR 1+ software on a K03 some 25K miles ago or so.

so anyhow, it *is* an expensive job (20 lifters at $25-$35 each, plus labor and some gaskets), but well worth it.

Default omg...you should ahve bought lifters online...

I think i have seen the lowest at 8.90 or near there. From scanning threw ETKA i believe Audi has used the same part # for the hydrolic lifters since well before 1990. Because my CQ uses the same Lifters as the A4. If i am remembering correctly.

What oil have you been using? this is just a curiosity question btw.

Default there may be MANY suppliers for the same part # - the cheaper parts may be chinese

i have German lifters in my car

plus, my mechanic is very honest and we've known one another as friends for years. so what if i throw him a bone here and there.
